[PL] Local Youth Parliament Session #3

The YP seesion took place in two gymnasium in Oświęcim. It was organized on 17th of April 2019. It took about 3 hours.

We wanted to catch interest of Youth by connecting various aspects of European Union policies with various board games. We played “Kolejka” (eng. Queue – simulation of standing in queues in polish communist era) and Monopoly. Then we opened the discussion about European Union and how it can support development of Youth. How it can support our economy and how young entrepreneurs can benefit from it.

Methods used during the YP session were based on work of John Dewey. He is often seen as the proponent of learning by doing – rather than learning by passively receiving. He believed that each child is active, inquisitive and willing to explore. How to capitalise on these drives?

Children needs to be encouraged to learn through experience, clarify the key points and apply the lessons to get practical results. Active learning, which improves understandement of things is also crucial in developing social aspects of Youth. Dewey wanted students to develop critical thinking which, he believed, would provide a fail-safe against forces that might want to impose a dictatorship.
