[GR] Local Youth Parliament Session #1

Social Youth Development(K.A.NE) as partner in the ”Clicking with voters” projetc had to organise before the Euro-elctions of 25 of May 2019, 3 events/debates as it was discussed and set up in the 2nd meeting of the project in Krakow. In the events/debates the target group was: first time voters and in general young people who have the right to vote.

The aim of the events/debates was to discuss and analyze with the young participants about active citizenship and further to motivate them to vote on the elections.

This way, the first event that K.A.NE organised in order to achieve the above aim was a screening of a documentary. In more details, the title of the documentary was Burkinabè Rising, the art of resistance in Burkina Faso” by Iara Lee. The documentary was about an area in Africa and more spesifically Burkina Faso. The viewers through this documentary had the chance to see and learn about the different means of art that people(who are poor and live in bad conditions) in this area where using in order to resist and stand up for their rights.

The reason why KA.NE choose the spesific documentary was because:

1)the director is a well known and inspiring activist

2)the topic was interesting for the young people and it, it was possible after to ”transfer” what we saw in our reality and discuss about about young participation and in general active citizenship as this was the main topic of the documentary.

Finally, the event took place at the Youth Centre of Kalamata on March 20/2019. It was attended by 32 young people. Viewers were informed with a small introduction, about the documentary and the process after the screening by Nadiana Koutiva, who monitored the discussion at the end.

After the screening everyone was motivated to stay and discuss further about the documentary. It was a very interesting discussion as all of the young people wanted to express their opinion about the documentary, analyze their role in the society they live and propose ways that they can be even more active as citizens. The cocnclusion of the whole discussion was the importance of using the rights someone has in a society such as voting. All of the people left the Youth Centre having in mind the importance of voting and motivated to vote in the elections of 25 of May.

As K.A.NE we evaluate that the event and the whole process of it was succesful as it seems that the aim was succesfully achieved.
