The Youth parliament session was based on three main methods. The session started with mediated discussions in small groups on the current role of the young people in the economic development in Bulgaria and the possible action to be taken. Afterwards the participants listened to a presentation by Mrs Kaleynska, Head of the EDIC Veliko Trunovo on the work of the European Union in the field and took part in an active discussion with direct questions from the participants with Mrs Kaleynska.
Conclusions are as follows:
- Young people are the ones that instigate changes and their role is to target the problems that impede their countries’ progress and sort them out with innovative approaches. Most prominently, they need to choose a profession they take delight and interest in. Threby a striving to be a proactive citizen and make a difference is bound to follow and hence young people will embrace their civic duty. When such attitude is adopted by the majority of young people, an economic growth will be experienced on a large scale.
- The economic condition is highly dependent on the legislation and government authority. These institutions are mainly led by people from the old generation, most of them thinking conservatory. In essence, they strive for achieving a stable economic condition available in a prior period of time. Thus, these institutions cannot benefit for the further development of the economic sustainability. If active young people, on the other hand, come to power – come to leadership, their innovative way of perceiving and dealing with problems, would definitely lead to improvement in citizens’ lifestyles.
- Considering the fact that young people are capable of coping with a wider range of activities, their role in the current and future situation of the economy is vital. The youth of a country holds the key to its development. Young people are more openminded, communicative, willing to experiment and take risks, creative and more informed on global issues and possible solutions, due to the Internet. Young people in Bulgaria and in the EU as a whole possess the ability to make important decisions successfully and fast and to cooperate with other young people worldwide in order to assure the economic growth of their countries.
